The final three days of the visit of We Care for Humanity (WCH) Founder and President, Ms. Maria Amor, in Indonesia, proved to be one that is jubilant and nostalgic at the same time. Ms. Maria Amor was recently conferred Doctor of Divinity by STT Hagiasmos.Taking advantage of being officially appointed Head Representative in California, USA of The World Peace Committee Ms. Amor was able to visit Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, where more than 10 million tons of trash is dumped on a landfill area owned by the city government of Bantar Gebang, Bekasi.

As a bonus however, Ms. Maria Amor was able to visit the Menteng Dalam administrative village of the Tebet subdistrict in South Jakarta, where a young Barry Sotero, as he was known then, in the 3rd grade at the Besuki school here, grew up from 1967 to 1971. Today, that young boy Barry is no other than President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the the United States of America.

As it is famously known, Obama, a Christian who was born in Hawaii, moved to Indonesia as a 6-year-old and lived with his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, and Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro. In October 1967, Obama and his mother moved to Jakarta to rejoin his stepfather from Hawaii. The family initially lived in a newly built neighborhood in the Menteng Dalam, South Jakarta for two and a half years. From January 1968 to December 1969, Obama's mother taught English, while Obama attended the Indonesian-language Santo Fransiskus Asisi (St. Francis of Assisi) Catholic School around the corner from their house for 1st, 2nd, and part of 3rd grade. And now as they say, the rest is history.

In his own 2010 visit here, President Barack Obama said "Because Indonesia is made up of thousands of islands, hundreds of languages, and people from scores of regions and ethnic groups, my times here helped me appreciate the humanity of all people." Obama reminisced about living in a small house with a mango tree out front, and learning to love his adopted home while flying kites, running along paddy fields, and catching dragonflies.

On the other hand, accompanied by Mrs. Rani, the school principal, Imron Ichsan, WCH-Indonesia PR/Legal Director, and Tommy Karwur, WCH-Indonesia President, Ms. Amor on their way to Pres. Obama’s childhood house beamed proudly, “This opportunity to have seen in person and actually see the streets, the houses and school where the President actually lived, albeit short period of time, is both surreal and awesome. It just strengthen my resolve that great people are made and destiny has some rewards for people with great heart, bold spirit and sharp mind. It is an honor at the same time to be able to see the actual residence where President Obama lived once in his lifetime.” The school kept young boy Barry’s chair for posterity in the school’s museum.

Right after the visit, Ms. Maria Amor prepared to head for Manila, where she again was scheduled to continue her chosen vocation, to be a humanitarian to those who need a little help and a little care. And just like President Barack Obama, Ms. Maria Amor will continue to inspire the young and the old, the rich and the poor, to do good not for themselves, but for others. And that’s where the same narrow road is taken by great people like them.

Hello Princess Maria Amor....I have begun to communicate with you via email and I see all the responsibilities you have taken which prove you are seriously helping the world.....what a great experience to be with President Abama when he came back "home" ti Indonesia...In the 70's after I had worked for the UN in Thailand for 3 years I traveled to Indonesia visiting friends in Jakarta, Bandung ,Jogjakarta, and Bali.....I wish one day to return....Tom Myrdahl
