Colombo, Sri Lanka- Thousands of schools bags and schools supplies were distributed to underprivileged children in different parts of Sri Lanka. His Excellency Jeff Goonewardena, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Venezuela and Columbia and former Consul General to Los Angeles initiated this project with the help of Her Highness Princess Maria Amor D.D., founder and president of We Care for Humanity and Mr. Amal Senalankadhikara, president of Navodaya Foundation and chairman of Bureau of Foreign Employment in Sri Lanka.
An estimated 5000 school bags, 3,700 food packs, worth $10,000 cash giveaways were allocated to families and children of Sinhalese, Tamil, Christians and Muslim backgrounds. Among who helped facilitate the distribution were Kevin Mofidi, Angie Perera, Tanya and the two American visitors, Mike and Coco.
“I am moved by Jeff’s passion to help humanity. The capacity of his heart is limitless. We had seen his humanitarian works during the time of Katrina, he has distributed over 1 million books to the less fortunate victims and has done countless philanthropic deeds here and there and every now and then, he is a miracle worker!”, said the Princess who is also the creator and chairman of theGlobal Officials of Dignity (G.O.D.) Awards.
Mr. Goonewardena is being honored at 3rd Annual G.O.D. Awards as theSri Lankan Humanitarian Ambassador which will be held at the United Nations in New York on August 5-7, 2015 along with Indian Tycoon Dr. H.P. Kanoria and USA’s Human Rights Icon, Father Richard Estrada to name a few.
The Global Officials of Dignity Awards is an international humanitarian awards institution, which aims to bridge the gap of power and influence to the peace and welfare of the human race. Among the Emeritus honorees are His Excellency Arsen Kanokov, former President of Kabardino-Balkar Republic (KBR), Hon. Senator Diane Feinstein, Hon. Congresswoman Diane Watson, Her Imperial Majesty Empress Shebah, His Imperial Royal Highness Prince Gharios and Dolores Huerta.
